Update: I like java much better now as I got a new computer

However I do play multiple versions

1.8.9 for pvp

1.9-1.16 for survival singleplayer

beta 1.7.3 for survival multiplayer

Alpha for whenever I want to
indev for fun

I mostly play 1.8.9 since I am sorta good at pvp but not really lol

I have completely stopped playing bedrock edition and haven't been playing it that much (only if I want to play with my younger siblings)

The 1.17 caves update is not completed and out yet, but there are snapshots that you can play, and be able to test out some of the new features. Snapshots are available for all updates.

The Java Edition is the most open-sourced option for users, making it the best choice for modders and for those who prefer PC gaming. Many of the players who use the Java Edition have been playing the game since Minecraft originated.

I'm sure they mean Minecraft Java is the most 'open sourced' compared to other versions. You can extract the contents of the .jar file, after all...

Even though its not open source per se, you can still modify it directly if you really wish to. Mojang can't do anything about that. That's why mod clients like Forge and Fabric exist, alongside server software like Spigot.
