It's useful for ClassiCube servers, where their owner can use a link from garbage.loan to fetch files from, instead of relying on another service. However usually files hosted on garbage.loan only stay for about half a year before they get removed.

I haven't used it myself yet (but will soon), all I claimed is what I remember reading on the site.

Then there's also the alternative of using your own domain of course, but you need to maintain it.
