Server join doesn't work

Hey so I want to join a server however whenever I press connect it just sends me to a singleplayer world. Am I doing something wrong and how can I fix it?

you might be joining a server that as no active members. if your using downloaded client i would make sure your clicking the right button so you enter the server select screen.

Pressing the connect button after clicking onto a server also brings me to a single player server.

If using Windows/Linux/macOS,  are you using the latest release or dev build of the game?

I had just downloaded it on windows 

After I looked onto the website for a little bit I realized that I just had to verify my account by clicking on link in my email that should have been sent when you created your account
