why is b-hopping in half life so easy

i feel like i can get an okay multi segment speedrun or whatever the fuck its called because b-hopping is so easy that you can do it with the space bar but in cs:s i cant do jack shit, i just flop around and get no speedup.

 

im not asking on how to b-hop in cs:s, i know how to, its just that why is it 10x harder in the source engine lmfao?
