how to drain water

Hello, i was wondering how do you drain water/get rid of it in single player?  i recently downloaded a map but it was ruined by water :(

use the sponge block, or ask staff on a server (or make your own) to upload the map for you, as single player has different physics than servers

thanks, it will take awhile though as the entire map is flooded
