Github is removing password authentication for git operations next year.

https://github.blog/2020-12-15-token-authentication-requirements-for-git-operations/

"Beginning August 13, 2021, we will no longer accept account passwords when authenticating Git operations on GitHub.com.". You will be required to use a token-based. Basically, you will be required to use your phone to ever do any push on Github.

I guess I'll just eventually find some alternative if I want to upload more stuff. :|

I think you're confusing 2FA tokens and personal access or OAuth tokens. This change doesn't require you to enable 2FA (even though you should!!), it just requires you to create a personal access token or an ssh key that you'll use instead of a password. Using your password for git authentication has always been a bad idea, so it's good that they're finally disabling that completely
