How can I add a light source (like a torch)?

Hello! I'm hosting a server on MCGalaxy (a small server to play with friends), and I'm having trouble with darkness while building structures. How can I add light sources like torches? Is it even possible?

    1. add a torch texture to the texturepack your using
    2. set the texture of a custom block to that of the torch
    3. use /shapeblocks to shape the torch to size

    1. set the lamplight property to 1 for the block
