can't get gamecube controller to work with wii version

I'm trying to use my gamecube controller with ClassiCube on my wii, but for some reason it isn't recognizing it's there even though the website says the Wii version has gamecube controller support. I'm pressing buttons and nothing happens.

Is this possibly because i'm using a wireless controller? (Still plugs into the gc controller port via a dongle)

 

I'd like to figure this out because my gamecube controller is much more comfortable than my wii classic controller.

If you check the download page, it says that it might have glitches.

check if you can change the controls. (Note: you might have to change every control)

Chrome (Android)
  1. Tap the lock icon next to the address bar.
  2. Tap Permissions → Notifications.
  3. Adjust your preference.
Chrome (Desktop)
  1. Click the padlock icon in the address bar.
  2. Select Site settings.
  3. Find Notifications and adjust your preference.
